UPLIFT Standing Desk Long-Term Review

Introduction

I’ve been using this UPLIFT standing desk for four years now. If you’re looking to buy a standing desk, or just curious about them, I’m going to show you how this one works, what I think of it after four years of daily use, and if I would still buy it today.

Main Points

So, why did I even get a standing desk, and why should you consider one?

There are lots of articles about the purported health benefits of a standing desk. But that’s not why I bought this. If your curious about the health impact of standing while working, I’ll let you Google that separately — those articles are easy to find.

The main reason that I bought a standing desk was for flexibility. I actually talked about this in another video when I gave a walkthrough of my productivity desk setup for 2024.

I value the flexibility of being able to sit or to stand, depending on the signals that my body is giving me. When the, “I’ve been sitting too long” feeling kicks in, it’s fast, easy, and comfortable to continue working while standing.

That desire for flexibility led me to this: The UPLIFT Standing Desk V2-Commercial. Here’s an an overview of my version of the desk:

  • 48” wide by 30” deep
  • 1” thick bamboo
  • White desk legs with a cross-bar between them
  • White advanced keypad that can accommodate four saved heights
  • White dual power outlet
  • White grommet cover for cord passthrough
  • Cable management tray beneath the desk

I paid about $700 four years ago for the desk, advanced keypad, and cable management accessories, but the desk alone would have been $610.

This UPLIFT LED desk lamp came free with the desk purchase, but the lamp is not very good — it turns on and off erratically. Right now, I’m using it as a bias light behind my monitor to complement my main desk light, which is the BenQ ScreenBar Plus monitor light. I did a separate review on this light.

My desk also included a bamboo rocker and desk mat at no additional cost. I use the desk mat every day, but have rarely touched the rocker. It’s fun, but isn’t super comfortable without shoes on, and I don’t wear shoes in the house.

Now, this is the desk as I configured it, but there are countless ways to customize it to your liking, including:

  • Desktop style (straight or curved), color, material, and size
  • Grommet configurations, such as electrical power, cord passthrough, or storage bins
  • Frame style and color
  • Keypad style and color
  • And more

So, what’s so special about this standing desk?

  • Cross-bar: This is what makes it the “Commercial” version. The cross-bar adds a ton of stability no matter the desk’s height.
  • Travel range: Goes from 22.6” at the low end, to 48.7” at the highest setting. That’s 26.1” of travel range. This should accommodate anyone between 5’ and 6’3” tall.
  • Anti-collision system: Stops desk motion when resistance is detected.
  • Weight capacity: 355 lbs. I haven’t tested this limit, but I do have a lot sitting on this desk.
  • Advanced keypad: Ability to program saved heights.
  • Accessories: From hammocks to sleep in, to desk extensions.

What are some of the drawbacks?

Honestly, it’s hard to think of any drawbacks. There is slight color distortion between the area under the desk mat and the surrounding areas. And if I had more space, I would have preferred the next size up in width, which would take this from 48” to 60” wide. But this isn’t a con about the desk, just that I wouldn’t mind something bigger.

If you’re going to use a standing desk, you’ll want an anti-fatigue mat. This makes standing while working far more comfortable, whether you’re barefoot or in shoes. The anti-fatigue mat that I’m using is the Topo Mini by Ergodriven. See the link in the description.

Final Thoughts

So that’s a look at the UPLIFT Standing Desk V2-Commercial. After four years, this desk is as solid, comfortable, and reliable as the day I got it, and I would happily get it again.
