My spouse's smart home wish list
My wife shares her smart home tech wish list, including 10 things she would add or change about our smart home.
Introduction
I’ve got hundreds of smart home devices around my house, and I’m often thinking about what I wish some of them could do — basically a tech wish list.
Since a smart home is experienced by everyone in the home, this got me wondering, “What would be on Ashley’s smart home wish list?”
Well, you're gonna find out. Ashley shares what she wishes our smart home could do. And I’ll see which of her ideas, if any, I could implement. If nothing else, we’ll chat about ideas for smart home tech.

Main Points
So, I asked Ashley a few questions like:
- What are some things that you’d love to see automated?
- What’s something you wish smart home devices could do or just do better?
And she came up with a bunch of ideas:
- Smart string lights across the backyard
- Add an item to the grocery list using your voice
- Alerts when the oven reaches the target temperature
- Bathroom fans turn on and off based on the humidity level
- Open a smart lock with iPhone or Apple Watch
- Robot vacuums that actually clean
- Sensors that are better at determining when she's in the room so lights don’t turn off
- Countdown timer that says how many minutes are left on the washer or dryer
- Different nightstand brightness preferences when reading at night
- Smart home widgets on iPhone home screen
